Pass your Dutch motor theorie exam in
Original CBR-style questions, every Dutch term explained, hazard perception in the real exam format. Built for the rijbewijs A — with a pass-or-retry guarantee.

Three reasons English speakers fail the motor exam.
And the three things we built differently.
Lost in translation
Most NL apps machine-translate. Terms like woonerf and bebouwde kom lose meaning. We keep the Dutch words and explain them inline with hover definitions.
Memorising, not learning
Competitors are flashcard dumps. We use FSRS-6 — the algorithm Anki uses — so you only re-see what you're about to forget.
Gevaarherkenning is brutal
10 photos. 8 seconds each. Brake, release, or do nothing. Most apps skip this section. We drill it in the exact CBR format.

Questions you'll ask
Is the Dutch motorcycle theory exam available in English?+
No. CBR offers the car (B) theory exam in English, but the motorcycle theory exam (A/A1/A2) is only conducted in Dutch. You can bring a TolkenNet-registered interpreter to the exam, or use an English-language study platform like DutchTheory so you walk in already knowing the answers.
Do I need an interpreter for the CBR motor theory exam?+
Yes, if you can't read Dutch confidently. You book CBR's I-T product (theorie-examen met tolk), then book the interpreter separately from one of the CBR-listed agencies — Global Talk, Mastertolken, or ELAN Languages. See our full interpreter guide for the exact process.
How much does a CBR English interpreter cost for the motor theory exam?+
Approximately €356.50 total in 2026: €118.50 to CBR for the I-T exam product, plus €238 paid directly to the interpreter agency. Three agencies operate CBR-specific booking portals: Global Talk, Mastertolken, and ELAN Languages (cbrtolk.nl).
How many questions are on the CBR motorcycle theory exam?+
50 total, split into three sections: 12 knowledge (kennis), 28 insight (inzicht), and 10 hazard perception (gevaarherkenning). Total time: 30 minutes.
What is the passing score for the Dutch motor theory exam?+
You must score at least 35 out of 40 on the combined knowledge + insight section AND at least 7 out of 10 on hazard perception. Both sections must pass — getting 40/40 on rules but 6/10 on hazard still fails.
What is the difference between A1, A2, and A motorcycle licenses?+
A1 covers light motorcycles up to 125cc (from age 18). A2 covers motorcycles up to 35 kW (from age 20). A is unrestricted (from age 24, or 22 if you've held A2 for two years). The theory exam is the same for all three categories.
How long is the CBR motor theorie certificate valid?+
18 months from the day you pass. You must complete the practical exam (AVB + AVD) within that window or retake theory.
Can I convert a foreign motorcycle license in the Netherlands?+
EU/EEA licenses can typically be exchanged via RDW without re-testing. Non-EU licenses usually require taking both the Dutch theory and practical exams. Check RDW eligibility before booking.
What is gevaarherkenning on the motor exam?+
Hazard perception. You see 10 photo scenarios and choose one of three options — Brake hard / Release the throttle / No action — within 8 seconds each. It tests anticipation of latent risks, not raw reaction speed.
How long does it take to study for the Dutch motorcycle theory exam?+
With spaced repetition, most learners need 10–20 hours over 2–3 weeks. DutchTheory's FSRS scheduling shows you only what you don't yet remember, so you cover the full RVV rulebook without re-reading what you already know.
